The up and coming area of Alcala.
The Spanish village of Alcala has become increasingly popular over the last few years but yet retained its charm and charisma. The original part of Playa Alcala has a small sandy beach, a small harbour for entry of boats, jet skis etc. There are sun beds available on the promenade, with step entrances to access the sea. There are several very good restaurants along the way such as Restaurante Sauco, Lupulo and Restaurante Escondida all which you advised to book in advance.
The beach is usually busy with locals during the summer months. There is also a new beach next to the 5 Star Hotel Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora amongst the rugged volcanic rocks. This has created a great interest to the area and helped the local businesses and growth of the general infrastructure.
There is now a popular coastal walk from here to Playa de la Arena and one in the other direction of Playa San Juan. It is quite easy to park in Alcala and walk to these other popular towns, take a coffee or a glass of wine and walk back for lunch or dinner.
The main road into town is very busy and has everything on offer with great shops and supermarkets but is less pleasing on the eye than the “old square” and beach.
In general, this area is one which we highly recommend you to visit or even for your whole holiday.
